JAKARTA - Defending champions Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong on Sunday regained their mixed doubles title at the Indonesia Masters 2020 after defeating their compatriots Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping.

The world No 1 in the mixed doubles downed world No 2 in the mixed doubles event by 21-9 and 21-9.

In a press conference, Zheng said he and Huang managed to beat Wang/Huang in 25 minutes as the former believed that the latter could not give their maximum performance.

"Our opponents were not in a fit condition which of course affected their performance in the match," Zheng said.

"Honestly, their performance was usually not like that," he added.

Meanwhile, Huang said that supporters in the arena also contributed to their victory.

"We thank our supporters in Indonesia for keeping their support on us, We are so happy we can be the winners here again," she said.

In the same tournament last year, Zheng/Huang successfully beat Indonesia's top shuttlers Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir.

Tontowi/Liliyana, who are the champions at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, were defeated with scores of 19-21, 21-19 and 21-16.

The Indonesian Masters 2020 kicked off on January 14 and ended on January 19 at the Istora Senayan sports stadium in the country's capital city of Jakarta.

The total prize money for the event is 400,000 US dollars, which is up about 14 percent from that of the same event in 2019.
