China reports 2,531 deaths from infectious diseases in Nov

BEIJING - A total of 2,531 people died of infectious diseases on the Chinese mainland in November 2019, official data showed.

According to the National Health Commission, there were 670,999 cases of infectious diseases reported on the mainland in November.

Altogether, four cases of plague and one case of cholera were reported in November, with no fatalities caused by the diseases, the commission said. Cholera and the plague are classified as Class A infectious diseases, the most serious classification in China's Law on the Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases.

A total of 292,854 cases were classified as Class B infectious diseases, resulting in 2,522 deaths. Viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, syphilis, gonorrhea and scarlet fever accounted for 93 percent of these cases.

Category C diseases caused nine deaths in November. Influenza, foot and mouth disease and infectious diarrhea were the most prevalent in this category, accounting for 91 percent of the reported cases.
