Canadians win Ski Cross World Cup event in Arosa
GENEVA - The Canadian pair of Kevin Drury and Marielle Thompson claimed wins at the FIS Ski Cross World Cup night event in Arosa, Switzerland on Wednesday.
The men's competition saw Swiss skier Alex Fiva, Sweden's Viktor Andersson, Drury and Austrian Adam Kappacher into the big final.
Kappacher lost his balance and fell as he tussled with Fiva, giving Drury time and space to move in front before taking the win. Andersson took second spot ahead of local favorite Fiva.
In the women's competition, the fastest four of the day were Montafon winner Thompson, Cross Alps Tour leader Sandra Naeslund, fellow Swede Alexandra Edebo and local skier Fanny Smith.
Naeslund took the lead after the start, but one mistake allowed reigning world champion Thompson to pass her and win the event. Smith came in second and a disappointed Naeslund finished third.
The Ski Cross World Cup resumes in Innichen, Italy this weekend.
