Chinese women's team beat Chinese Taipei 1-0 in EAFF E-1 Football C'ship

BUSAN, South Korea - The Chinese women's team squandered a sack of chances in their 1-0 win over Chinese Taipei in the EAFF E-1 Football Championship on Tuesday.
Chinese skipper Wu Haiyan scored the sole goal for China at the tournament at the 29th minute when she headed in a corner kick from teammate Wang Shuang.
China managed to take 23 shots including nine on goal and a shot against the bar.
In the dying minutes, Wang Shuang, who played at Paris Saint-Germain last season, got a precious chance when she had only the Chinese Taipei's goalkeeper to beat, only to see her angled shot flew wide.
Jia Xiuquan, head coach of China, had vowed to improve his side's scoring abilities following their disappointing campaign at this year's World Cup in France, where they net only one goal over four matches.
In their previous two games, China held South Korea to a goalless draw before losing to Japan 3-0 at the the women's competitions of the EAFF E-1 Football Championship.
The Chinese men's side also performed poorly, having lost 2-1 to Japan and 1-0 to South Korea. They will play their third and last tie of the tournament against Hong Kong, China on Wednesday.
