Panda's story promotes peace at 2019 Basi Culture Forum

Panda Basi's story was shared to promote China's traditional values of peace at the 2019 Basi Culture Forum held in Fuzhou, East China's Fujian province, on Wednesday.

Panda Basi, known as the world's oldest captive giant panda, died at 37 years old in 2017. Besides her longevity, Basi was beloved for her athletic feats, which became the inspiration for the 1990 Asian Games official mascot.

Basi also wowed American crowds in 1987 while on six-month loan to the San Diego Zoo.

Nowadays the world is facing many problems and challenges, like unilateralism and protectionism. However, peace and growth still remain the underlying themes of our times. It is a common aspiration of the peoples of all countries to build an open and inclusive world that enjoys lasting peace and prosperity, said Li Xiaolin, president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

Themed "Culture and Peace Shared by the World ", the forum attracted 200 participants from home and abroad in the cultural and sports fields.
