BEIJING
Head of Micronesia to make state visit
At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, President of the Federated States of Micronesia David Panuelo will pay an eight-day state visit to China starting Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying announced on Monday. Panuelo took office in May. Yang Chuantang, a vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, attended Panuelo's inauguration ceremony in July as Xi's special envoy.
Inspection of drug controls underway
China's narcotics control authority has started its annual drug control inspection in 31 provincial-level regions across the country. The monthlong campaign, organized by the National Narcotics Control Commission, aims to scrutinize the rectification of major drug problems and the implementation of anti-drug laws, regulations and policies, and check on local governments' work on enhancing accountability, strengthening support for drug control and improving drug control governance systems. The commission has already completed the inspection in places including the Inner Mongolia autonomous region and the provinces of Henan and Qinghai.

No casualties after quake hits province
No casualties have been reported after a 4.6 magnitude earthquake jolted Sichuan province on Monday afternoon, local authorities said. The quake hit the city of Mianyang at 3:20 pm local time at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center. The provincial earthquake administration said tremors were felt in the cities of Chengdu, Leshan and Meishan.

Three Gorges scenic peak gets insured
Shennu Peak in the Three Gorges area on the Yangtze River became the country's first insured natural land tourist site under a 100 million yuan ($14.2 million) deal, the culture and tourism department of Wushan county said on Monday. The Wushan Tourist Development Group Company signed the insurance deal with Jiang Tai Insurance Brokers for risk management of the scenic spot. Shennu, meaning "goddess" in Chinese, is located on the northern bank of Wuxia Gorge among the twists and turns of the Yangtze River, China's longest waterway. The insurance deal was signed under the coordination of the Culture and Tourism Development Committee of Chongqing, which administers Wushan.
