Lechia wins in Cracow to extend Wisla nightmare in Polish league

Wisla Cracow suffered their ninth consecutive defeat as they lost to Lechia Gdansk 1-0 on Sunday in the Polish soccer league Ekstraklasa.
In the beginning of the 21st century the "White Star," as Wisla is called, was the major force in Polish football, but the club have huge financial problems this year that influence the team's performances.
Wisla lost 12 of their 16 matches and sit at the bottom of the table. On Sunday they were not able to contain Lechia Gdansk. Portuguese Flavio Paixao sealed three points for the visitors by striking from the close range with 30 minutes into the game. Wisla had a chance to respond, but Damian Pawlowski's shot was blocked and then Lukasz Burliga put his header over the crossbar.
Lechia, who was focused on fast attacks, should have doubled the lead with 10 minutes to go but Wisla's custodian Michal Buchalik palmed away the technical effort by Lukas Haraslin.
"I stay calm although we lost the game. We need to be more confident and we should score if we have a chance. I still believe that these players have enough quality to win few matches in a row. We were better than the opponent and we created a lot of chances, but we couldn't deal with the pressure. We need to improve that," said Wisla's coach Artur Skowronek.
