Bad weather cancels Freeski Slopestyle World Cup
VIENNA - This weekend's FIS Freeski Slopestyle World Cup in Stubai, Austria has been canceled due to bad weather, the International Ski Federation (FIS) announced on Thursday.
The FIS said on its official website that "after much careful consideration, the Stubai organizing committee and the Austrian Ski Federation have made the decision to call off the event due to difficult weather conditions in the lead-up to the competition, and a very unfavorable forecast for the upcoming days".
According to the FIS, last week's heavy snowstorm combined with the possibility of avalanches kept the resort closed for two days last weekend, causing major delays in course preparations, which in turn forced the postponement of Wednesday's first training session.
The next events on the FIS Freeski calendar are the Copper Mountain (United States) Land Rover US Grand Prix Halfpipe World Cup from Dec 11 to 13, and the Beijing Air + Style Big Air World Cup from December 12 to 14.
The next event on the slopestyle World Cup calendar will be the Font Romeu (France) competition, taking place from Jan 9 to 11, 2020.
