Retired English Premier League legends Dwight Yorke and Teddy Sheringham gave the crowd a lot to laugh about during their appearance at the International Champions Cup media conference in Shanghai on Thursday.

The event was to announce that Manchester United will be taking on Tottenham Hotspur at Hongkou Stadium on July 25.

Tottenham is the defending champion of the tournament, which was founded in 2013.

This year's event will feature 12 teams playing 18 matches across cities in Asia, Europe and the United States.

Bayern Munich, Juventus, Benfica and Chivas Guadalajara are among the other clubs participating.

"This is a high-profile tournament and we're very happy to have it here in Shanghai," said Chen Fugui, deputy general secretary of Shanghai Football Association.

"The match will be highly anticipated by Chinese fans of both teams and I am certain both sides will put on an exciting display of football.

"We're also happy to have the ICC here as it will be helping with community development in China, holding events such as youth football clinics.

"The ICC Legacy Project will promote football in the community and encourage more people to participate in this sport," he added.

Sheringham said he expects Tottenham's top players to be in attendance, citing how there are no international matches during that period.

Yorke said fans can expect Manchester United to put on a good show.

"We now have a young, exciting manager in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He understands the club and he's done a remarkable job so far," said Yorke.

"He's brought back the excitement. We're winning matches and everyone is excited about what's happening."

One of the highlights of the conference was when Yorke and Sheringham traded friendly banter when naming their dream teams comprised of players from each club's history.

They also drew laughter when speaking candidly about their predictions of the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the English Premier League.

Sheringham predicted Manchester City would be this season's Premier League champion while Tottenham would win the UEFA Champions League, drawing an eye-roll from Yorke that did not go unnoticed.

"Good luck with that," laughed Yorke. "Yes, City will win the Premier League, but I'm not sure about Spurs being the champion of Europe. I think Manchester United has so much of a better chance.

"We've had huge success against Barcelona in the past but I don't think Tottenham can say the same about their track record with Manchester City," he added, referring to the teams' respective quarterfinal matches in the Champions League.

There was another matter that Sheringham and Yorke, both of whom once played as forwards for Manchester United, agreed on - they don't want to see United's arch rival Liverpool win the Premier League.

Liverpool is currently two points clear of City at the top of the standings, though the latter has a game in hand.

"City to win it, of course. Liverpool? Who are they?" laughed Yorke.
