Domestic tourism revenue up in 2017

The domestic tourism market was in high-speed development in 2017 while inbound and outbound tourism remained steady, according to a report by the China Tourism Academy on Friday.
Last year, over 5 billion domestic trips were made by Chinese travelers with revenue generated reaching 4.57 trillion yuan ($670 billion), seeing a year-on-year rise of 12.8 percent and 15.9 percent, respectively, the report said.
The total revenue created by tourism-related industries in 2017, according to the academy, totaled 5.4 trillion increasing by 15.1 percent from 2016, contributing over 9 trillion yuan to the 2017's GDP.
As to the outbound tourism market, about 130 million visits were made by Chinese travelers bound for overseas destinations, up 7 percent from 2016.
The Chinese mainland received about 140 million visits from foreigners and residents in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, an increase of 0.8 percent from 2016, the report said.
