Beijing invests 100 million yuan in bookstore development

Beijing municipal government will invest 100 million yuan ($14.5 million) to support the development of brick-and-mortar bookstores in 2019, announced the authority on Dec 18.
In 2018 the city spent 50 million yuan supporting 151 bookstores, which tripled the previous year's investment.
Official data shows that Beijing has this year built 126 new bookstores and residents in the capital have gradually returned to physical books stores from purchasing online.
Wang Yefei, head of the city's publication bureau, said that next year the city is expected to spend 100 million yuan in subsidies for 200 bookstores.
