Yuze, an injured teenager whose emergency trip from Inner Mongolia autonomous region to Beijing by ambulance became a hot topic on social media, died on Tuesday, China Youth Daily reported.

His mother decided to donate his corneas, as he wanted to be a doctor and the donation could realize his dream in some small way.

Yuze suffered a traumatic brain injury, a collapsed lung and fractures following a car accident in Inner Mongolia during the National Day holiday.

After spending days in a hospital in Inner Mongolia, his family decided to transfer him back to Beijing.

Netizens forwarded the news and car plate numbers on social media, calling for cars to make way for the ambulance. Beijing police also arranged for a police escort to lead the ambulance when it entered Beijing.

On Oct 16, the ambulance finished the 520 kilometer trip in five hours and 20 minutes. The teenager arrived at Beijing Tiantan Hospital two hours earlier than expected.
