Soccer tourney to kick off in Guangzhou


A soccer tournament featuring several overseas consulates soon will kick off in Guangzhou, the capital of South China's Guangdong province, aimed at boosting grassroots soccer communication, according to the organizers.
The event, organized by Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F, includes 21 teams representing Guangzhou consulates of the United States, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Poland, Mexico, Brazil and other countries, as well as three teams from local government authorities and media associations.
"As a CSL club, we are making efforts to promote grassroots soccer and exchange between China and the world's soccer powers," said Huang Shenghua, vice chairman of the Guangzhou R&F.
The tournament, which was initiated in 2015, will open on Nov 10 and the final will be staged on Dec 15 at Yuexiushan Stadium, the home stadium of Guangzhou R&F.
