Macao's retail sale up by 23.7 pct in Q2
MACAO -- Macao's retail sale value for the second quarter increased by 23.7 percent year-on-year to 18.01 billion patacas ($about 2.24 billion), the special administrative region's statistic department said here on Saturday.
Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) said in its latest report that although the retail increased year-on-year, it fell by 13.4 percent as compared with the revised figure in the first quarter this year.
The report added that Watches, Clocks and Jewelry accounted for 21.1 percent of the total retail sales, followed by Goods in Department Stores (15.8 percent), Leather Goods (13.4 percent) and Adults' Clothing (12.4 percent).
Among the major retail activities, sales value of Communication Equipment (65.3 percent), Leather Goods (36.9 percent), Goods in Department Stores (34.2 percent), Adults' Clothing (26.7 percent) and Motor Vehicles (24.7 percent) registered notable year-on-year increases.
In comparison with the previous quarter, however, sales value of Communication Equipment (-43.2 percent), Adults' Clothing (-23.2 percent), Cosmetics and Sanitary Articles (-15.7 percent) and Watches, Clocks and Jewelry (-13.4 percent) decreased in the second quarter.
Value of retail sales for the first half year of 2018 totaled 38.79 billion patacas ($about 4.81 billion), up by 24.9 percent year-on-year.
