Beijing math teacher who raped student, 16, loses appeal

A former math teacher in Beijing has lost an appeal against his conviction for raping one of his students, Beijing Youth Daily reported on Wednesday.
Zou Mingwu, 40, was sentenced to 12 years in prison by Haidian District People's Court in December. He is also barred from working with minors for five years after his release.
The court heard Zou raped a 16-year-old girl at her home in March 2017. He had been hired by the victim's parents as a private tutor in October 2015 and was earning 160,000 yuan ($25,000) a year, prosecutors said.
He denied the allegations and appealed the verdict. However, Beijing No 1 Intermediate People's Court upheld the conviction as the assault was caught on a hidden security camera at the victim's home.
Zou previously worked in at a high school in Haidian and was honored as a "key teacher".
