Although Maxirap is a form of traditional Uygur dance, people from all ethnic groups in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region enjoy it. Every evening, a large number of people gather at the people's park in southern Xinjiang's Kashgar city for a Maxirap party. Wu Yuxiang, 97, has been learning the dance for a year. He said Maxirap has helped him lose 12 kilograms. "Maxirap beats any other weight-loss program that I've tried. Most importantly, the atmosphere here just makes me happy," he said.
