"For the next five to 10 years China will play a critical role in the global cruise industry's development."

Zinan Liu, managing director for China of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. The company expects to carry 400,000 Chinese cruise passengers next year, double the number of last year, from four main ports Shanghai, Hong Kong, Xiamen and Tianjin, he said.

"The complexity of doing business in China such as getting licenses and approval is much easier, which creates more freedom for the industry."

Mike Rusbridge, chairman of Reed Exhibitions, saying he was optimistic about China's exhibition industry. Reed Exhibitions, an event organizer with a presence in 43 industries worldwide, plans to continue growing in China amid the economic slowdown.

"By investing more resources, we want to consolidate our presence further."

Christopher Nassetta, chief executive and president of Hilton Worldwide, saying the company has plans for many more hotels in China. At present it has 48 hotels under five brands.
