China pledges firm support for Cuba against US threat of force

China urged the United States on Thursday to immediately stop its threat of force and all forms of blockade against Cuba, pledging that China will continue to firmly support Cuba in safeguarding its national sovereignty and opposing external interference.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian made the remarks at a regular news conference while responding to reports that senior US defense officials are considering military action against Cuba.

Lin stressed that the threat or use of force in international relations seriously violates the United Nations Charter and endangers world and regional peace and security.

Noting that the UN General Assembly recently voted by an overwhelming majority to continue debates on ending the US economic, commercial, and financial embargo against Cuba, he said this reflected the international community's call for justice in supporting Cuba and opposing the embargo.
