On Jan 16, 1980 Deng Xiaoping made a speech entitled "the current situation and tasks" at the staff meeting held by the CPC Central Committee, addressing the four premises of realizing the four modernizations: first, there must be a firm and consistent political line; second, a political stability and unity; third, there must be an entrepreneurial spirit of hard struggle; fourth, there must have cadres stick to the socialist road, with professional knowledge and ability.
