Indonesia sends $2.1m worth of aid to Haiti

JAKARTA: Indonesia is sending relief supplies worth 20 billion rupiah (US$2.1 million) for the victims of devastating earthquake in Haiti, local media reported on Friday.

"The aid supplies will be flown this afternoon from Halim airport (in east Jakarta)," said Rustam Pakaya, head of Crisis and Disaster Mitigation at the Health Ministry.

According to Rustam, the 40-ton aid supplies consist of medicine and food.

Government also deploys 75 volunteers, including 30 medics along with personnel from police, military, Indonesian Red Cross and health ministry.

Rustam said that Indonesia would set up temporary field hospital that can handle the Haitian earthquake victims.
