YANGON,Myanmar - Myanmar and Japan have made consultations in Nay Pyi Taw over Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Myanmar, official media reported Tuesday.
The recent consultations between the Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department of Japanese Foreign Ministry and Foreign Economic Relations Department of Myanmar's Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development focused on development policy of Myanmar's new administration as well as Japan's assistance policy on ODA for sustainable economic development of Myanmar, including the formulation of projects that can be implemented under the current Japan's economic cooperation policy towards Myanmar, said the New Light of Myanmar.
The Japanese side expressed belief that it is important for Myanmar to become a democratic nation based on market economy and social stability, the report said, adding that Japan intends to implement economic cooperation while watching Myanmar's improvement in democratization and human rights situation.
Myanmar's new government is currently in the process of political and economic reforms after it assumed office in March this year.
