KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Malaysian police arrested a 25- year-old man who was suspected of making a fake bomb call, which lead to the suspension of train services in Malaysian northern Perak state last week, a senior police official said Monday.
According to Perak police chief Shukri Dahalan, the suspect, who works as a direct sales distributor, called the police with a mobile phone shortly after midnight last Thursday, claiming a bomb was beneath one of the bridges along the railway track between Perak's Bidor and Tanjung Malim.
The train services between Tapah Road and Tanjung Malim via Bidor were halted due to the report, affecting more than 1,200 passengers.
Police sent two bomb squads to search for the bomb only to find some empty bottles rolled up in a mat.
Shukri told reporters that initial investigations suggested the man made the call after having a quarrel with his girlfriend.
If convicted, the man may face imprisonment of up to seven years or fine or both, said Shukri.
