DAVAO CITY, Philippines - Suspected leftist rebels ambushed two government militia men in southern Philippines on Sunday, leaving one dead, the military said on Monday.
The ambush happened at a village road in Arakan town, in North Cotabato Province just hours after soldiers captured an encampment of the leftist New People's Army in nearby Makilala town, killing three guerrillas, according to Colonel Leopoldo Galon, spokesperson of Eastern Mindanao Command.
Galon said Cafgu Active Auxiliary members Jerry Mendoza and Rogelio Herbilla were on their way home on board a motorcycle after attending a relative's funeral when attacked by three gunmen.
