MANILA, Philippine - A mother and her five children were injured in a grenade explosion on Thursday night in Laoac town in the northern Philippine province of Pangasinan, police said on Friday.

The victims are recuperating at the provincial hospital in San Carlos City, said provincial police head Rosueto Ricarforte.

The grenade exploded around 7 pm underneath the family's residence at Calmay village, said Ricarforte.

"Further investigation revealed that the unexploded live hand grenade was allegedly buried by somebody at the explosion site and was dug up by a dog that was seen lifeless near the crater," said Ricarforte.
