BAGHDAD - At least 14 people were killed and 59 wounded in car bomb attacks in Baghdad on Wednesday morning, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

"Our latest reports said that a total of 14 people were killed and 59 wounded by the attacks on three of Baghdad police stations, " the source said on condition of anonymity.

The first attack occurred at about 8:20 am (0520 GMT) when a suicide bomber drove his explosives-laden car into the entrance of al-Elwiyah police station in Baghdad's central district of Karrada, killing four policemen and a civilian, the source said.

The second attack occurred almost simultaneously when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden car into the checkpoint of another police station in Baghdad's northwestern district of al- Hurriyah, killing three policemen and three civilians, the source added.

Meanwhile, the third attack took place when a booby-trapped car parked outside a police station exploded in Baghdad's southern district of Eilam, killing three people, he said.

A total of 59 people, including policemen, were wounded by the three attacks, he added.

Violence has been increased in the Iraqi cities as the Iraqi security forces are preparing to take over control of security alone after the proposed departure of US troops by the end of the year.
