CARACAS - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Tuesday reiterated his support for Palestine's bid for full UN membership during a meeting with the Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.
"To support the Palestinian cause is to declare peace," Chavez said.
He also criticized the United States for its attempt to veto Palestine's statehood application at the UN Security Council.
Meanwhile, the Venezuelan president praised bilateral exchanges between his country and the Palestinians.
Abbas expressed his gratitude for the support shown by Venezuela and other countries in the region.
The Palestinian leader arrived in Venezuela on Tuesday after visiting Colombia.
As part of a campaign to seek support for Palestine's statehood, Abbas has already visited the Dominican Republic and El Salvador.
He is also expected to travel to Portugal later.
On September 23, Abbas submitted an official request for full UN membership.
