KABUL - A powerful blast rocked western part of the Afghan capital Kabul with feared casualties, police said.

"A powerful explosion was heard near the Habibia high school," a police official told Xinhua.

The explosion happened at the same time when security forces are battaling a group of armed insurgents in Makroryan area near the US embassy in Kabul.

A witness told Xihua the blast could be a suicide bomb attack on the main road to parliment building.
