AMMAN - The Palestinian authority is looking forward to Jordan's support in bidding for UN recognition in September, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Tuesday.

"We are relying on your support and that of the brotherly and friendly countries to bring Palestine back on the geographic map," Abbas said on Tuesday at a ceremony where he presented King Abdullah II of Jordan with honorary doctorate in humanities from the Jerusalem-based Al Quds University.

The Palestinian authority will continue efforts to realize Palestinian reconciliation, Abbas said.

Meanwhile, the Jordanian leader said the Arab kingdom will spare no effort on the political, diplomatic or legal levels to protect the holy Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem from Israeli violations.

The Palestinian authority plans to bring the Palestinians' long quest for statehood to a vote in New York in September.
