Afghan police kill 12 militants in past 24 hours

KABUL - Afghan police backed by NATO-led troops have eliminated a dozen insurgents and captured 13 others elsewhere in the insurgency-hit country over the past 24 hours, Interior Ministry said in a statement here on Sunday.
"Afghan national Police in harness with army and support of NATO-led forces during series of operations conducted in Nangarhar, Saripul, Khost, Wardak, Ghazni and Paktia provinces over the past 24 hours have killed 12 rebels," the statement said.
Another 13 were arrested, the statement emphasized.
Numerous arms and ammunitions were also seized during the operations, it added.
Taliban outfit, the major anti-government group fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops in Afghanistan, has yet to make comment.
