S. Korean, US officials to meet in July for security talks

SEOUL- The so-called "two plus two" meeting of foreign and defense ministers from South Korea and the United States might be held here, local media reported Tuesday.

The first-ever meeting between security officials from the two allies is likely to be held in July, considering working-level discussions over the schedule of the talks, Seoul's Yonhap News Agency said quoting an unidentified government source.

Yonhap said the bilateral meeting, originally organized with an aim to reaffirm commitment to their alliance, is cast in a new light as the recent naval incident that killed scores of South Korean navy sailors is changing security dynamics on the Korean peninsula.

Besides the naval disaster, the two countries are expected to discuss mutual cooperation on resuming the stalled six-party talks, G20 meetings among global economic powers to be held in Seoul later this year and their two-way free trade agreement, Yonhap said.
