NEW DELHI - Mild tremors were felt in parts of northern India, after a low intensity earthquake hit the bordering areas of the states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab Sunday, a senior government official said.
However, no casualty or damage of property has been reported, he said.
"The quake, measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale, hit Himachal- Punjab border at 12:23 p.m. local time. The epicenter was found to be at Hoshiarpur, having a latitude of 31.7 degree north and longitude of 76.1 degree east," the official said.
A central team has been sent to the area to assess the quake impact, he said.
