Egypt's top Muslim Imam dies of heart attack

CAIRO - Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Mohamed Sayyid Tantawi died of a sudden heart attack Wednesday morning in Saudi Arabia, the official MENA news agency reported.

As the country's top Muslim cleric, Tantawi, 81, arrived in the Saudi capital Riyadh Tuesday to attend the King Faisal International Prize (KFIP) awarding celebration, according to MENA.

Al-Azhar is Sunni Islam's preeminent theological institute.
