JAKARTA - Indonesia's South Sumatra province will host the International Tourism Rally in early August, Antara news agency quoted an official as saying on Wednesday.
"The International Tourism Rally will start in Thailand to Malaysia and Singapore, and it will end in Palembang, the provincial capital city of South Sumatra,"the Tourism Division Head of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) Otte Ruchiyat told reporters in Palembang.
He added that the rally will be joined by Asian prominent rally racers.
He said that the tourism rally is aimed to promote Indonesia including South Sulawesi as a province that has many attractive tourism destinations.
"Opportunity to be the host country should be used as best as possible," he said. The province's Governor Alex Noerdin welcomed the event as it would increase local economy.
