Cambodian PM asks TVs to show more cultural and traditional programs

PHNOM PENH - Aiming to improve the public awareness of the country's old culture and tradition, especially for the younger generation, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen asked on Wednesday all running television stations in Cambodia to produce and broadcast more cultural and traditional pieces.

He said Cambodia is rich in culture and tradition that left over by ancestors who have built and accomplished so many things for Cambodian people and the nation including the famous and glorious temples such as Angkor Wat Temple and Preah Vihear Temple.

Hun Sen said he has monitored television programs and some of them have broadcasted modern song contest, beauty contest, or movies or TV dramas from the United States, South Korea, Singapore, China and China's Taiwan.

Hun Sen said those TV stations shall produce more cultural products such as Cambodian dramas, movies, songs and music among others.

However, Hun Sen said while preserving own culture and tradition, the modernization of the products shall not be forgotten so as to catch up with the modern society, but in a condition that "Not too old fashion and nor foreign style in nature".
