MADRID: Spain will honour the museums who helped protect hundreds of artworks during the country's civil war in the 1930s, the Spanish Presidency of the European Union said Friday.

The actions of the committee members during the civil war from 1936 to 1939 prevented hundreds of works of art in Spanish galleries at that time from being destroyed.
Apart from the ceremony, an exhibition and a congress will be held. The event was the first joint and coordinated involvement of the museums in Europe to save works of art as part of the common heritage of mankind, the website said.
