Strong earthquake hits Solomon Islands

HONG KONG: An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale jolted Solomon Islands at 0401 GMT Saturday, according to a bulletin released by the Hong Kong Observatory.  

The epicenter was initially determined to be at 9.2 degrees south latitude and 157.6 degrees east longitude, about 260 kilometers west of Honiara, Solomon Islands.
