After helicopters and naval vessels were called in to search for the the sightseeing plane that went missing, rescue officials spotted the Cessna 210 in the waters near Corsica and two survivors were evacuated to a hospital in Ajaccio, capital of Corsica.

The other four were located later and also rescued.  All the six were in stable condition.

The plane reported an engine failure to air traffic controllers in Provence, southeast France,  after taking off from south Corsica island on Monday afternoon, an air force spokesman said.
