C130 crashed in East Java, Indonesia

JAKARTA -- An Indonesian Air Force Hercules plane flying from Jakarta to Madiun, East Java, crashed into a rice field at Geplak village in Magetan at about 6:20 am on Wednesday morning, or a few minutes before landing at Iswahyudi military airbase, with more than 100 people on board.

According to local TV station MetroTV, the number of casualties from the accident stands at some dozens. And a witness was quoted as saying that the plane destroyed two residential houses when crashed.

A rescuing action has been launched.

A local private television station quoted Air Force spokesman Rear Marshal Bambang S as saying that a Hercules aircraft of the Air Force did crash in Madiun on Wednesday morning.

The crash in Madiun is the second in less than two weeks after another Air Force Hercules plane overshot the runway of Wamena airport in Papua on May 10, 2009.
