TOKYO -- The Japanese government has nominated Koji Tanami, governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, as the new governor of the Bank of Japan (BOJ), Kyodo News reported on Tuesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda said his government would bring forward the new proposal on the nomination of the BOJ chief by the end of the day.

On a separate occasion, Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura expressed his confidence that the proposal will be accepted by the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), Japan's key opposition party, which rejected the government's previous proposal on the nomination of the next BOJ Chief last week.

The five-year tenure of the current BOJ governor, Toshihiko Fukui, and his two deputies expires Wednesday.
