DENVER - NBA rookie of the year Tyreke Evans of the Sacramento Kings was among four league players added to the US national team roster on Tuesday.
Joining the Kings points guard was the player he beat for the rookie honor, guard Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors; Beijing Olympic gold medallist Tayshaun Prince of the Detroit Pistons and forward Jeff Green of the Oklahoma City Thunder, USA Basketball, the sport's US governing body, said in a news release.
Evans averaged a team-leading 20.1 points, a team-high 5.8 assists and 5.3 rebounds for the Kings as he joined Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan and LeBron James as the only players to average at least 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists in their rookie campaigns.
The four will offer additional veteran experience, versatility and young talent, national head coach Mike Krzyzewski of Duke University said.
Squads for August's world championships in Turkey and, if the Americans qualify, the 2012 London Olympics will be selected from the team, which now includes 31 players.
Previously announced players included 2008 Olympic gold medallists Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets), Carlos Boozer (Utah Jazz), Chris Bosh (Toronto Raptors), Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers), Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic), James (Cleveland Cavaliers), Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets), Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat) and Deron Williams (Utah Jazz).
The national team will train in Las Vegas from July 19-24, USA Basketball said.
