The Russian, attempting to set her 28th world record both indoor and outdoor but the first on home soil, twice failed to clear the bar at 5.01 before missing 5.02 on her third attempt.
Isinbayeva, 27, extended her world indoor record to 5.00 metres a year ago in Donetsk, Ukraine. Her outdoor record, set last August in Zurich, stands at 5.06.
