With overwhelming 6-2 and 6-3, Yan swept the German player with ease. For Peng, however, the fight with Craybas turned out to be a tough competition.

Craybas is ranked number 66 at the WTA rankings, two places higher than Peng and Peng was facing an uphill battle.

At the beginning of the game on Tuesday, Peng failed to adapted herself to the red clay and she trailed 1-5 at the first set. However, the 22-year-old managed to equalize the score at 5-5. In the sensational game of the first set, Peng wrapped up with 7-4, thus wining the first set with 7-6.

It seemed that the second set would duplicate the first set as Peng lost to Craybas with 0-4 at the beginning and Peng equalized with 5-5. However, luck was on the side of Craybas this time as she cracked Peng's service to make it 6-4.

In the final set, however, Peng turned out to be invincible as she swept Craybas 6-0 to seal the victory.

Peng is to face another uphill battle next round as she is to encounter Serbian Jelena Jankovic, who is the fourth seed of the tournament and ranked number five at the WTA rankings.

For Yan, her rival in the next round is Hungarian player Agnes Szavay, a No. 10 seed player of the tournament.
