Wang Yuanlin, a 61-year-old village doctor, has devoted himself to inoculating children for 37 years at an underdeveloped region, spending hours on the rough roads and with low income barely to support his family.

In Shuanglu county, North China's Shanxi province, Wang Yuanlin has helped make the county’s inoculation rate 100 percent, giving over 200,000 doses in 37 years.

Wang's work is far from easy. As 14 out of 15 villages of Shuanglu are located in big mountains, Wang has to walk at least 2.5 kilometers and sometimes up to 10 kilometers just to get to work. Moreover, he has to take along a deep-freeze box that weighs 10 kilograms.

Although he earns only 370 yuan ($54.6 dollars) per month, Wang seems satisfied with his work. "It's very comforting to see so many babies grow in a healthy way; it's all worth it," he said with a smile.
