Agricultural exports hit $226.2 million in Sanmenxia in H1

Sanmenxia city in Henan province witnessed an increase in the export of agricultural products in the first half year of 2018, according to the statistics released by the government.

The city's total farm products export amounted to 1.6 billion yuan ($226.2 million) from January to June, up 64.7 percent year-on-year. Sanmenxia has pushed forward the reform and adjustment of agriculture structures, in order to accelerate the development of characteristic farm products.

With a newly-planted area of 101,900 mu (6,793 hectares) for fruit trees this year, the city harvested 2.35 billion kilograms fruits, ranking first in Henan. The production of livestock and poultry and fungus also continued to grow, and the city energetically carried forward the brand building of tobacco industry, cementing the top place in tobacco production throughout the province.

With the wheat sown area of 1.2 million mu, the yield per unit area exceeded 302 kilograms, the second highest in history. Meanwhile, its Chinese herbal medicines also developed at a rapid pace, especially fructus forsythiae planting, enjoying a high growth rate of 50,000 mu annually, which has now become the pillar industry for farmers in the area.
