Sanmenxia's village receives provincial honor

Wentang village in Sanmenxia's Shanxian county has earned the title of "special tourist village" from the Henan Tourist Administration, according to a report published by the provincial body.

Aiming to boost the development of rural tourist destinations, the provincial authority began the process of applying for the fourth batch of special tourist villages in September 2015.

A lush ecological environment, beautiful rural sceneries, well-preserved ancient buildings and unique customs have allowed Wentang to stand out from the competition with the other villages in the province.

Wentang's title as a "special tourist village" has taken the number of provincial-level special tourist villages in Shanxian to four. Three other villages in the county with the title are Miaoshang, Renmazhai and Qucun.

Applications for the fourth batch of special tourist famous townships and villages in the province will soon open. The designation of special tourist areas is aimed at spreading Sanmenxia's historic culture to more places, according to local officials in the city.
