Authorities in Lushi county in Sanmenxia, Henan province, have made concerted efforts to foster the young generation by investing 1.8 million yuan ($747,400) into the education sector, according to the local officials.

The investment has primarily gone towards kitting out local schools with technology. The initiative is a response to the provincial government's call for a more Internet education-oriented environment. An online platform was established to share educational resources and an online scoring system has been implemented for local teachers. Almost half of local schools connected to the Internet have joined the online platform.

Thanks to efforts made by the local government, schooling conditions have been upgraded and quality education resources have been expanded to a wider range of students in the county. With 13.39 million yuan worth in investment, four villages in the county have received new kindergarten facilities in 2015. It is hoped the funds will narrow the education gap between urban and rural areas.

In 2015, the county has organized training courses for 5,000 teachers to improve teaching skills. Through cooperation with Beijing Normal University, one of China's leading universities in teacher training, headmasters and principals of local schools have been equipped with quality management and teaching capabilities.

Under the guidance of a government strategy to accelerate the pace of poverty-relief, Lushi has allocated 20 million yuan to help students from underdeveloped villages afford education fee. The county's education bureau has adopted a series of supportive policies to distribute subsidies and loans at national and provincial levels for local students.

Quality education has always been a top priority for the government in the county. The local government has made a concerted effort to incorporate a wider range of sports activities in school exercise classes to alleviate academic pressure. Plans for emergency response have also been established in schools to increase safety.

Officials say that education is fundamental to secure longevity of economic development and social stability in the county.
