Shen Bing was born in 1976 in the city of Zhangjiagang, in southern Jiangsu province, a coastal province stretching north from the city of Shanghai.
Many in China know Shen Bing as the face of China Central Television (CCTV) programs such as Dialogue, I Love World Cup, Economics 30 Minutes and Decision Maker Talks. She was one of the few versatile hosts who could anchor sports, finance and current affairs programs.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from Nanyang Technological University in 1999, she worked as a reporter for Singapore Press Holdings. In 2001, she returned to China and started her career as a TV presenter with CCTV after winning first runner-up in the National TV Host Competition.

This year, she was invited to be a business advisor for the Tangshan Municipal People's Government.
Besides being a media personality, many also know her as a philanthropist. Earlier this year, with the support of her family, Shen Bing donated S$100,000 ($81,430) toward the building of a school in Yunnan and sponsored another S$40,000 ($32,570) for the construction of a children's library in Xinjiang. As president of the newly-formed NTU Alumni Association (Beijing), she led a group of over 400 members in a community project to help needy students this July when the association held its first charity event titled The Heart of Nanyang.
