College film festival premieres in Xi'an

College students in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, will have more movies to choose from as Qujiang Film and Television Group launched a college film festival on March 16.

Leaders from the Education Commission of Shaanxi province, Xi'an Electronic & Technology University, and Qujiang New District attended the opening ceremony, along with 1,200 teachers and students from Xi'an Electronic & Technology University.

The military film Out of Birth Without Notice, which won several awards at the 9th China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, was screened for free as the premiere film.

According to Guan Zhaoyi, general manager of Qujiang Film and Television Group, it is the first cinema festival designed for college students in China, with the added benefit of promoting cultural projects put forward by Shaanxi province.

Meanwhile, the cultural lives of college students would also be enriched.

More than 200 selected classical films will be released on weekends throughout the whole year. Qujiang Film and Television Group will be screening the movies for free.

The film festival, which opened at Xi'an Electronic & Technology University on March16, will travel to other universities in Xi'an and the whole province.
