Hard measures for drinking water in India

Women gather around a well to draw drinking water near the banks of the dried-up Vakaria lake at Vakaria village, west of the western Indian city of Ahmedabad, May 14, 2011. The village has five wells and three of them are completely dry. In the afternoon women wait for two to three hours for the water level to go up so they can draw water from the remaining two wells. They also have to walk two to three kilometres to reach the wells. Authorities say that due to less rainfall, water levels have decreased. This year, the country has forecast a normal monsoon.
