Taxila Museum is an ideal place to discover Pakistan’s past history and ancient civilization that once flourished in Taxila. The city thrived from the 7th century B.C. to the beginning of the 2nd century B. C. All the materials exhibited here have been excavated in three cities and over two dozen stupas and monasteries, around the museum site.

The artifacts detail the daily life of the inhabitants of ancient Taxila and stone sculptures present scenes from the life of Buddha. It’s worth mentioning that the Chinese pilgrim Xuan Zang visited the city in the 7th century.

The ancient Chinese mythological novel Xi You Ji (Pilgrimage to the West) made the story of Tangseng well known in China for centuries. Actually, it was based on a true story of a famous Chinese monk, Xuanzang (602-664), who traveled along what we now know as the Silk Road including the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, central Asia and eventually reaching India. Xuanzang visited Buddhist resorts in different countries and absorbed their cultures.
